Phriday Phun

If You're Going to San Fransisco, Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair....

This car, turned shrine, turned landmark, is about 20 steps from the colorful mailboxes I posted HERE on last Phriday Phun.   I bet it's been sitting in this spot since the 60's and I wonder how many parking tickets it got before it took root!   I've decided the residents of the apartments who own the mailboxes must be retired hippies who are still living the dream.  This was my era as well, but thankfully, I followed a different dream.  As for the photos, the subject matter just begged for some bright psychedelic colors.  Now for those of you who want to walk, I mean shuffle down memory lane (J/K), here are the rest of the lyrics to this song that helped draw so many young people to the bay area in that decade:

If you're going to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you're going to San Francisco
You're gonna meet some gentle people there

For those who come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there
In the streets of San Francisco
Gentle people with flowers in their hair

All across the nation such a strange vibration
People in motion
There's a whole generation with a new explanation
People in motion people in motion

For those who come to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there

If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there

Wow, what a sight. I wonder how long that cabbage patch doll has been there, because it seems to be holding up, but then San Francisco weather may help that. I notice It's been modernized a little with the cell phone, though I wonder what the bones have to do with that. Really interesting, glad you shared it and gave us some Phun.

My, is there a lot of colour in that shot! Great capture.
That was my decade too! I too took a different path!

Yikes! I wanted to GO there! I bought love beads and saw The Beatles and many others. We adore the Mamas and Papas. What a wildly colorful picture, yes, a true hippie symbol! A feast for the eyes, I could look all day and still find new things.

Good one, Karen. Oh yes, was in SF (visiting sister in law school at U of SF) when this was popular ... oh yes, I remember it well. Though at the time I had waist-length hair that I ironed and wore gauze shirts with creweled jeans, I have always been very conservative ... Happy Phun Phriday :)

Art cars are great subjects. I've seen some with more than this on them (except for the rooted plants)and they are fully functional.
