Monument Valley - The Mittens

When we first arrived at this viewpoint in Monument Valley, the sky overhead was blue and soft sun light was filtering through a few white, puffy clouds.

A short while later, the storm caught up with us.

It passed through quickly leaving the mittens and monuments in a hazy, watery mist.
So interesting how the same scene can look so different in such a short period of time when the weather is in control!

These are all stunning. I see hundreds of similar images as it is a very photogenic place. These are up there with the best I've seen.
Is it the same area where folk take a picture through a hole in a rock?

they do look just like a pair of mittens, i think I like the second one best, all three are beautiful. it always amazes me how even a single flower will change by the minute with the way the sun or sky changes.

Adrian,
There are many, many places in Utah and Arizona where people take photos of holes and arches in red rock formations. One of the most popular places, and probably the one you are think of, is in Arches National Park, which is on the same driving circuit as Monument Valley where these photos where taken. Arches NP is where Turret Arch (and hole), and Delicate Arch are located. These formations, along with the Mittens and Horseshoe Bend (several posts ago), are some of the most photographed locations in the US and probably the world and are within a half a day's drive of each other.

Yes the different weather creates different moods in the shots. They are amazing structures. One place that I missed while in US.

What a great place. My friends and I are planing a US trip later this year, and Monument Valley (and the Grand Canyon) are on our list.

I have been looking at your blog pictures on and off all evening. Your photography is so inspiring. I always appreciate the tech talks too. I need to head to bed...but I needed to leave at least one comment. (0:
