New Zealand Parrot
These brazen guys can do serious damage to the tops and hoods of cars. We saw several of them in a parking lot on our way to Milford Sound. They are totally unafraid of humans. One tourist was feeding them out of her hand (bad tourist!).
Update: My BBs Diane and Robin (Blogging Buddies), commented that these destroyers of cars are called KEA, and they particularly enjoy ripping off rubber, like around windows, doors windshield wipers, etc. (bad kea!)

The Kea has been known to strip all the rubber from the widows and doors of cars.
Great detail in the feathers. Not good about them damaging cars. Wonder what is the attraction. Big Red is a bit smaller than a dinner plate.
the detail of his feathers is just plain amazing. we have beautiful birds her that damage things to, big crames and Ibis and Egrets that like to walk on cars and woodpeckers love to break mirrors.
Karen, I've seen photos of these guys actually tearing windshield wipers and rubber trim off vehicles.
They are quite a scourge!
Lovely shot!
Geeezzzeeee...I thought it was a paradise...now I find out pretty birds are sometimes bad...oh, I already knew that...love keeping up with adventures even though the dang birds are bad...
