Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

The Christus

An exact replica of Danish Sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen's Christus is located in the north Visitor's Center on Temple Square.  Standing over 11 feet tall and made out of white carrara marble, this beautiful representation of the Savior with his arms and hands outstretched, invites all to come unto him, and helps present the central doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, (Mormons), that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the Savior of all mankind and the Redeemer of the world.  The Christus stands in a beautiful rotunda-like room, (circular), with a mural of the universe painted as a backdrop.  It is an inspiring sight!

(Note that I did not add the background.  This is the setting of this beautiful statue.)

Karen, This of course is an important symbol and reminder to us. As a matter of fact you'll see it again today, but from a very different view point, when my Christmas Eve post is posted. I really appreciate how you've balanced the composition to get the earth and also how you got the North Star directly above him. Very nice job.

The Christus is beautiful and the background is breathtaking. It seems the same color of blue as in the Chagall windows at The Art Institute of Chicago.

Best,
Bonnie

Hi Karen,
I just came across your beautiful blog. I love the themes and compositions. This one in particular is compositionaly beautiful with the mural with planets. An esoteric aspect of religion that we sometimes forget. You are welcome to join my blog if you want. Regards from afar.
