Antelope Island

HE AIN'T HEAVY......
(the little dots are flies)

PHOTO SHOOTS OVER.... I'M OUTTA HERE!

I was about 15-20 feet away from these guys, shooting with a 70-200mm lens, and these shots are not cropped.  Lest you think I'm totally foolhardy, I was in my car, on a road, engine on, car in gear, foot hovering over the gas pedal, ready for a quick get-a-way.  I shot out of the window using the window edge as a tripod.  I was shooting in the mid day bright sun which produced flat, boring lighting and color so I post processed in sepia and popped the clarity in Lightroom.  (Antelope Island is in the Great Salt Lake, and close to Scott and Chad's neck of the woods.  I made the drive hoping to see a hot air balloon festival but  all I saw was one deflating balloon that said ReMax.  It would have been a wasted morning, except for a few photos of some of the bison that live on the island.)

A very noble beast. Just imagine what it was like when there were millions of them!

when the first photo popped up i was sitting here with a big silly grin on my face. LOVE IT!!! and the caption is priceless. what a wonderfu face he has. you were really blessed to see these guys and capture a moment in time. with the sepia it is like time travel to the old wild west that is no more. much better than a balloon for me.

What??? You were this close and didn't stop and say high??? It's almost impossible to go to Antelope Island and not drive by Chad's house and I'm just a couple miles away. Anyway, welcome to our neck of the woods. We went out Friday evening to try to get some balloon glow at night and missed it by about 15 minutes. Didn't try last night. I'm really glad you got to get some of the bison close up. You should plan for the last Saturday in October (?I think?) and come up for the annual bison roundup. I think it would be worth the trip.

Scott and I also went out fri. evening to get some ballon shot. As with your case we came back with none. I do very much like your first shot with the bird on his back. Great picture & wish you had let us know you were coming up.

Gads!! Your car could have been rammed! Clearly, like me, you would do anything for a blog picture. I have also used the edge of the car window frame for a tripod, it works pretty well. These pics were surely worth it!!

I finally caught up on your blog, it has been too long. I like the tech talk advice and look forward to trying out some of those shots.
