What Kind of Bird am I?

There is a little pond filled with reeds wedged in between the freeway and a mall parking lot. I came out of the mall and saw a flock of these birds resting in the reeds. I had my camera in the car and spent a few minutes watching them. They seemed oblivious to the cars all around them. It was a pretty sight to see these black & orange birds among the brown reeds. Reminds me that there is beauty everywhere if we take time to look.

Karen I hate to admit this but I don't see the cool things you do. Not that they aren't there but I just don't take the time to look. Thank you for reminding me that there is beauty and a world full of wonder all around us. Sherrie

Mom - Did a little sleuthing for you. Here ya go...

Good morning.

Great photos!! Your description is very close. It doesn't have an orange head...the species is: "Yellow-headed Blackbird". They nest in colonies in marshes in Utah County. A side light...they are polygamists (fit in nicely around here), and the male pictured is the colorful one; females are significantly less decorative.

The picture above Tibble Fork is beautiful.

Tiera, Hmmmmm, I may be colorblind, and they may be called "Yellow headed Blackbirds" but they had orange heads!! (Maybe the person who named them was colorblind HA HA!)
Thanks for the info.
